Types of Vacations
Between work, family and our social lives, feeling stressed out is inevitable. As a result, many of us opt to take a vacation at least once every year to get away, relax and enjoy a different part of the world. While some people center their vacation choices based on a particular location or region of the world, others plan their vacations according to the type of vacation they want to take.
For example, although some people may want to take a Caribbean cruise, others may just want to take a road trip or a family vacation. Some of the various types of vacations you can take include:
- bachelor or bachelorette party vacations
- budget vacations
- family vacations
- healthy or detoxifying vacations
- how-to vacations
- luxury vacations
- road trips
- vocation vacations.
Once you decide on the type of vacation you want to take, fix a budget for how much you are willing to spend. When coming up with your budget, be sure to include the cost of traveling, accommodations and meals. Also factor in some money to spend on souvenirs and entertainment.
Along with your budget, the type of vacation you choose will limit or, in some cases, determine your destination. For instance, if you are looking to take a vacation that is focused on making you healthier, you'll likely be looking at going to quiet, meditative location far from the hustle and bustle of city life. As a result, you aren't going to be looking to travel to big cities, such as New York, Chicago or Los Angeles.
In this section, we will highlight various types of vacations that you can take. Our articles will not only layout the costs of different vacations, but they will also explain what you should expect on each type of vacation.
How-To Vacations
How-to vacations are trips in which you travel to learn a new skill or, in other words, how to do a particular activity. While some of the activities that you can learn on how-to vacations may translate to a new career, these vacations are focused on giving you a hands-on, inside look at how to start practicing a hobby that has captured your interest.
Some of the possible activities that you can learn about on how-to vacations include:
- archeological digging
- boat building
- furniture restoration
- massage
- photography
- yoga.
Generally, you will study your field of interest under an experienced mentor.
Along with being able to learn more about your chosen interest, another perk of the how-to vacation is the fact that you can travel with any type of travel group, and you can typically find a how-to vacation that can fit your budget. If you are considering going on this type of vacation, be sure to do some research and plan ahead before going on your

Vocation Vacations
Another type of vacation that has soared in popularity in recent years is the vocation vacation, in which people spend a specific period of time immersed in, learning about and practicing one of their dream jobs. While those who take vocation vacations may be considering a career change, others may simply go on this type of vacation for a new experience or a short change of pace from their daily lives.
Like how-to vacations, vocation vacations will pair you with a mentor who is highly experienced in your chosen field of interest. Throughout the course of your vocation vacation, you will likely shadow this mentor, following him around and helping him with the daily tasks associated with that career. If you are looking to get some insight to what it takes to do certain jobs, then consider going on a
